Can We Lighten Our Trauma Load? The Key To Renegotiating Your Past
Reframe your trauma to reclaim authorship of your life.
Have you ever considered renegotiating your past?
It's an interesting notion—one that challenges our perception of experiences marked by pain.
The past is something that affects all of us deeply, particularly where trauma is concerned. It shows up in our unconscious patterns and the stories we believe. Perhaps we wear our past as a badge of honour and tether our identity to our pain. We can become so attached to our past, that we struggle to fathom an existence without it. Yet, if we took an impartial audit of our situation, would we really want to continue living this way?
This is where the renegotiation comes in.
So what do I mean by renegotiate? Isn’t that something you apply to the present or future?
Well, yes. But we can also use it to reframe the past.
When we renegotiate the past, we're not dismissing our pain; instead, we're rethinking, reanalysing, and reevaluating it in a brand-new light. It’s about acknowledging it without judgment, and considering how much merit and weight we want to give it going forward.
So, I encourage you to take an audit of your past. Are you devoting more time to a past storyline than you are to the here and now? And how much power are you willing to keep giving it over your life today?
Can you release a little and alleviate some of the suffering and pain?
Can you envision a life more enriched, unburdened by the weight of the past?
Can you experience moments of lightness and freedom, making way for new memories?
Yes. Yes. Yes
Renegotiating your past doesn't mean erasing it; it means reshaping its influence on your present and future. It's a brave step in unshackling yourself from the chains of your suffering and giving yourself permission to savor the beauty and authenticity of your present life.
